How can CCHD help you?

ConnectHear
Auditory-Verbal Teletherapy

With ConnectHear, you can now receive regular therapy services for your child with hearing loss without having to leave your home -- using the internet and a webcam!

Auditory-Verbal (A-V) Therapy is designed to help a child with hearing loss learn to communicate using spoken language. Unfortunately, professionals who are trained to provide specialized Auditory-Verbal therapy to young children are scarce. That’s why CCHD developed ConnectHear, a service that provides A-V therapy remotely, using the internet and a web camera, so families from across the country can have access to this state-of-the-art approach to help their child with hearing loss.

A-V Therapy focuses on listening as the primary input for learning language and teaches parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing how to develop their child’s ability to learn through listening. During therapy sessions, the parent, child and therapist engage in play activities that teach the child to use his or her hearing aid or cochlear implant to learn auditory-verbal communication.  Through this process, hearing and listening become integrated into the child’s personality.

ConnectHear uses teleintervention to provide this service to children and families in their home or school, if they do not have a Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist available locally.  With ConnectHear, you can get the specialized help you need no matter where you live!
